Winter Windows & New Items

We're working on holiday windows for the shop. For the fall we made a flat tree with quilted style fabric. We added in some tree stumps, fake moss rocks, and painted tree silhouettes on the window. In the other window we decided to make it a living room with painted windows, looking "into" the outdoor window. For the winter we figured it would be easiest just to add to the window, plus my boyfriend spent a long time making that tree!, hah, so we kept that up and added in some rather expensive cotton, ahem, snow, and other embellishments. We made a trip to Michaels craft store last night and we bought a few more things to add to it including fake snow spray! I had some when I was little and I was pretty in awe with the stuff. Oh, we also hung some ornaments from the tree and to add some color to the snow area, we are wrapping presents with bright colored ribbons. Hoping it all comes together! Still trying to figure out what we want to do with lights..

Here are some in progress shots.. will post soon about what we're doing with the other window!

Store Photos

By the power of internet connection aka modelmayhem.com, I was able to be linked up once again with a photographer. This time with someone who has been photographing for years, working for magazines, and who wanted to build up his own personal portfolio. Perfect for me, I let him have free rein with the store and here are some of the shots he took.

I love these photos and am so grateful for kind photographers ; ). In other news, yesterday was quite a busy Thursday! A few people dropped off some great items including a bunch of men's shirts (but ladies, you will not be disappointed either). I am going to get everything input and out into the store for the weekend! Other things on my to-do list include contacting Etsy sellers about carrying their handmade items, decorating my store window for the holidays and getting more items online. Time to get busy..

Ps. Anyone know how to get the border off the photos on blogspot?

What I Wore / My Day

Dress: H&M
Stockings: www.etsy.com/shop/daixiaole
Necklace: www.etsy.com/shop/luxedeluxe
Belt/Shoes: Thrifted

These photos aren't actually from today, but I wanted to share anyway. (Didn't notice the annoying hanger string on my dress until now and my shoes look like they need a little wipe-down, haha). But anyway, I got this dress from H&M recently. It is super soft and was part of a buy 1 get 1 free deal they had. I think you can pair it with pretty much anything since it's pretty simple, but I can see that there are a lot of little different things going on in this outfit. Either way, I was comfortable and felt pretty put together! And the necklace, I love it!

So today on my day off I went thrifting. Thrifting without a car requires a bit more planning. Usually I wait till I can borrow a car but it's hard to get a car during the day / during the middle of the week. Luckily we can walk to the train and there is a thrift store within walking distance from the train. Thrifting is a lot of fun! I guess I got into it in high school. I tended to look more through the jewelry, purses, shoes, and random decorations than clothing though. I still use a purse I found years ago and a bunch of the jewelry as well. At this thrift store, I find those sections to be lacking and another reason I will be excited when we have a car is because we will be able to explore many more thrift stores! I am glad my boyfriend enjoys thrifting as well. He actually also loves to fix up things. He has been fixing things up in my store since he isn't working full time.

Here is something he fixed up! He actually didnt want to take it (found it for free outside an antique shop) because it was pretty beat up, but I liked the frame shape and knew with some paint it would look nice! Too bad we didnt get a before photo, but the frame was a little loose at some corners/had random fake metal on them and needed to be painted, the mirrors dirty, and in the middle were some random short shelves. I wanted a larger jewelry display since the necklaces were crowded on the one I had. He just staple gunned some fabric I bought onto poster-board and on the sides of that are poster board decoupaged using ads from a reproduction of an old sear's catalog. He also used that to decoupage the fitting room. I think he is going to paint a little design on the frame as well. To the right you can see another project he did, he decoupaged/collaged the back of the shelves with some scrapbook paper. Lots of decoupage projects going on! (Ps that just means he used wallpaper paste to stick it to whatever, but you can also use modpodge or elmers glue mixed with water). I think we might paint the shoe shelf black as well. My boyfriend is for hire by the way! Random 'make it pretty' projects, painting walls, whatever.

Anyway, back to thrifting, we also had to be more particular since we had to carry everything, but luckily(?) there weren't the best choices ever, but I do love what I found! When we were finished we had some extra time before the train and there is a cool place to eat called Soul Dog right by the train. They have a delicious mint honey tea I crave and since we had veggie dogs for lunch, we both got grilled cheese and a chunky tomato soup, yum.

What I Wore Today

I decided to wear my boyfriend's sweater because it shrunk and looked comfy! It looked a little bum-y and boyish so I added a bow headband. Perfect for a lazy Sunday.

Last night was the art opening for Fumi Mini Nakamura's show, 'I Want to be Your Favorite Hello and you Hardest Goodbye'. Pieces are available on my web store until December 13th. To make the event a little extra special, I got cupcakes made by Let Them Eat Cupcakes. I was happy with the turn out and steady flow of customers throughout the night! Special thanks to my intern for bringing all her friends, haha. I also got to meet the artist, Fumi, who traveled up from New York City, not far from the neighborhood I used to live in. I was curious what she would think of Beacon and she loved it.. and we would all love to have her move up here and add to our community of artists ; ). She is very sweet and I am so happy that she wanted to have a show at my boutique. Thank you Fumi!

What I Wore Today: Tailored Ballerina

I've gotten a bit behind in updating my blog. So here is a 'What I Wore Today' entitled, Tailored Ballerina!

I have had this cute tank top with ballerina-ish skirt layers for years and I never want to get rid of it. It might make me look a little wider in my mid-section but it adds a touch of fun and youth to any look!

I paired it with my new Lark & Wolff blazer and some jeans. Plus.. my "Alice" necklace, which you can find here on Etsy and my Forever 21 boots that I wear with pretty everything.

Looking back at this outfit, I think it would have been better with some type of flats. I need to work on wearing flats more, boots are just easier, haha.
