Home: The Vintage Kitchen

One of my favorite rooms in the house is the kitchen. Not because I'm some expert gourmet chef (not even close) but because, like many other rooms, kitchens are not one-size-fits-all. There are many ways to organize, feng shui and store things depending on your needs.

If you're short on inspiration on how to make your kitchen work for you, Pinterest will be your best friend for information as well as providing you with the DIY way to get it done.

I prefer to keep my kitchen clutter-free and love a good kitchen accessory, especially a vintage one, which is why I fell in love with these 1970's vintage canisters:

Vintage Botanic Canisters, $55 for the set.
Lit candles give the home a more welcoming vibe whether you're trying to mask some smells or just setting the mood.

"Honeybee" Soy Candle ($8) Also available in Crushed Rosemary and Spanish Lemon Verbena.
Handmade in New York City.

Whether you're into the 90s revival or still into everything Bohemian, weekend style is the best time to experiment with different looks.

Style Tip: Dresses over Pants

We're not asking you to choose one piece of clothing over another. No, we're saying that it's totally acceptable to wear both at the same time.

Come again?

If you follow the fashion blogger world, like the many of us who are obsessed, you would have noticed the newest trend of pairing dresses, yes, over pants. Sheree of, It's Not That Deep, and a local HV resident, pulls of this trend flawlessly and lets us all know how we can master the look as well.

Layering dresses over pants has been popular in streetstyle and runway trend for the past year. When done right, it can create a laid-back, urban vibe. It is also a great way to wear those dresses you were saving for a special day, or the right temperature. Adding layers, whether a dress or just an extra tee, creates more interest to your look.

Sheree layered this amazing silk vintage dress from Blackbird Attic over flared pants and under a blazer to give the look just the right proportions. See her full post on this here

Get styling tips on this trend and more at the Blackbird Attic Fourth-Year Anniversary Event on Saturday, April 12th from 6-9 PM as Sheree will be on hand featuring her closet sale and hosting a styling session. Sheree has been featured in Who What Wear, Lucky Magazine, New York Magazine: The Cut and more. It's going to be a great party!

A Necessary Accessory

There's something symbolic about a little girl putting on her Grandmother's pearls, staring in the mirror and falling in love with accessorizing her outfit. As we grow, we come to love all types of accessories--earrings, bracelets, rings, necklaces and the like. The options with accessories are endless and you can get even more creative with expressing yourself and your style than ever before.

Pendant necklaces and chunky bib's give two completely different fashion statements. Pendants are for more of a casual day look, and chunky bibs can add some funk as well as a nighttime flare.

Handmade Pendant Necklaces, $12/each

Long necklaces are great for layering. It gives your accessory choices more dimension.
Handmade Multi-Charmer, $14/each

Charms have been a staple in the accessory world for a long time. There's just something about connecting unique trinkets together that represent what you love.
Handmade Multi-Charmer, $14/each

Bohemian Rhapsody- Outfit Inspirarion

Some of my favorite looks in the entire world are inspired by the "peace and love" era of the 60's and 70's. For the past 10 years or so designers have incorporated "hippie" elements into their collections and dubbed the looks "bohemian." Kate Hudson, Vanessa Hudgens and many more fashion-forward celebs rock this (hopefully) never ending trend that pays homage to a country just wanting to live in harmony (and without bras).

Stores like Free People, Anthropologie and Urban Outfitters are some of the trend-setting places to continue to find up-to-date bohemian looks, and luckily, Blackbird Attic carries many pieces from them.

Style Tip 1: The gray stripe tank will look super cute with a white maxi skirt and brown boots.
Anthropologie / Eloise / Gray Stripe Button Tank / X-Small / $13.50

Anthropologie / Ric Rac / Gray Striped Top / Small / $14.50

Style Tip 2: Pair the floral tank from Anthropologie with some cut off shorts or destructed jeans for a roughed up girly look.
Anthropologie / Pinkerton / Dark Floral Tank / Small / $14.50

Free People / Turquoise Tank / XS / $16.50
