Sweater Weather

 Weezer, "Undone"

Much to my chagrin, it's still sweater weather. And the temps haven't risen above freezing in the last few days. Such is life in the Northeast in the winter.

The best part of the cold weather, and yes, there is a best part, are the fun, fuzzy sweaters that we get to wear. Luckily, sweaters come in a variety of styles, shapes etc and we can wear them any way we'd like. To transition into Spring, because my fingers are crossed that it is still actually coming, I've selected sweaters to pair with skirts and, for now, tights.

Style Tip 1: Mix prints.

Style Tip 2: Layer On.

Style Tip 3: Different lengths, different looks.

1) Sparrow / Blue Ombre Sweater / XS / $22, Boden / Tan Polka Dot Skirt / 12 / $13.99

2) Lucky / Beige Silk Skirt / Small / $13.50, Lord and Taylor / Beige Cardigan / Medium / $16.50

3) Cynthia Rowley / Gray Bow Cardigan / XS / $17.50, Vintage / SK and Company / 6 / $10.50

Dress To Impress

One of the most major ways to feel feminine is to throw on a slinky dress and some heels. However, these days, there are so many varieties of dresses (mini, maxi, midi, shift, fit & flare etc...) that it's kind of a given there's one for every body type and every mood. These aren't your staple LBD's but there is definitely room in your closet...

Marc by Marc Jacobs / Navy Cut Out Dress / XS / $24.99

Betsey Johnson / White Eyelet Dress / 4 / $24.99

Vintage / Carol Brent / Beige Pattern Dress / Small-Medium / $22

Banana Republic / Gray Dress / 4 / $15.50
Style Tip 1: Add some gold gladiator sandals with a fringe purse with the Betsey Johnson white eyelet dress for a fun hippie look.

Style Tip 2: Accessorize the Banana Republic and Marc Jacobs dresses with classic black stilettos for a super sexy night on the town.

These Boot(ies) Will Walk All Over You

There's a a saying that I love, that I've heard, about women and their shoes...a pretty well-known psychologist said that many women are obsessed with purchasing shoes because it's the one item in their closet that doesn't fluctuate in size. It's a satisfying purchase without feeling too fat or too skinny. A step in the right direction, if you will.

Transitioning seasons, booties will be your new BFF. They provide a little bit of warmth as well as a whole lot of style.

80%20 / Black Wedges / sz 10 / $29.99

Urban Outfitters Cooperative / Suede Wood Heel Boots / sz 8 / $24.99

Jeffrey Campbell / Deanne Moto Strap Boots / sz 8.5 / $85

Pinkie / EU 40/ $17.50
Style Tip 1: Pair the Jeffrey Campbell moto strap boots with some leggings and a tunic and you'll have the cutest weekend outfit for running errands.

Style Tip 2: The black wedges and brown booties can add some edge to a stuffy work outfit or can be paired with a flowy top and skinny jeans.

The Winter Blues

I think I speak for most people in the tri-state area when I say: "I never want to see another snowflake ever again!" One way ticket to Costa Rica, please!

Anywho, the one thing that has kept my seasonal depression at bay has been looking at all of the lovely frocks that graced the runways of New York Fashion Week (NYFW). The winter blues seem to have captured the likes of Marc Jacobs, Michael Kors, DVF, DKNY etc. Here are some of my favorite looks from the catwalks of Lincoln Center as well as what is in store at Blackbird Attic to (chambray) wash your blues away.

Abercrombie Fitch / Chambray Stripe Button Up / Small / $12.50

LemLem / Navy White Stripe Top / Medium / $22

Urban Outfitters / Kimchi Blue / Blue Floral Tie Top / Medium / $12.50

Vintage / Last Best Place / Denim Dress / Small-Medium / $16.50

Free People / Dark Blue Tunic / 6 / $22

Jcrew / Denim Jacket / Small /$24.99
Style Tip 1: Pair the Abercrombie Chambray button down top with a pair of dark jeans and you have a casual outfit for the weekend.

Style Tip 2: The JCrew denim jacket is a must-have in your closet for all seasons to throw over a heavy sweater, a maxi dress or to just add the extra "casual-ness" to any outfit day or night.

The White (and Black) Stripes

When it comes to styling a great outfit, a seven nation army shouldn't hold you back. When you're shopping, there are a few trends to always invest in that will never go out of style: anything black and stripes. With fashion taking bolder steps as of late, stripes can be worn any direction and even paired together for a "stripe blocking" or mixing patterns effect.

Forever 21 / Black and White Stripe Button Up / Large / $12.50

H&M / Gray Black Pencil Skirt NWT / Sz 6 / $12.99

Sparkle and Fade / Black Sheer Layered Dress / Large / $14.99

Forever 21 / Arrow Pattern Pants / Medium / $13.50
Style tip 1: Pair the skirt with either top and add a heel and you have the perfect outfit for date night or an office party.

Style tip 2: Lace up some black wedge sneakers with the Forever 21 patterned pants with either top and you have a funky, laid back stylish outfit.
