Sparkle & Fade

One of the most catchy rock album's of the 90's was Everclear's Sparkle & Fade. And ironically, many things that were made in the 90's are now vintage. Which is great for shoppers of thrift stores in need of a shiny outfit for NYE (nice segway, right?).

For a muted but shiny and silky look, this bronze dress from the DressBarn is perfect for a house party or VIP at the club:

DressBarn Bronze Silky Dress, $19.99.
The best part of any outfit are the accessories, these vintage coin purses are small enough for just the essentials!

Vintage Whiting Davis Gold Coin Purse, $7.

Whiting Davis Black Sequin Pouch, $8
Vintage Black Beaded Purse, $12 / Vintage Whiting Davis Gold Patterned Purse, $19.99

One of the lovely things about Anthropologie is that many of the pieces they carry are new, but look vintage. It's like the best combo ever. This dress is casual enough for a summer day with great gladiator sandals or paired with opaque black tights and sparkly heels for ringing in the New Year!

Anthropologie Moulinette Soeurs Tier Dress, $39.99

Happy Shopping and Happy 2013!

Blackbird Attic Outfits

Sheree of It's Not That Deep came in yesterday and styled some more outfits for us.

This dress/tunic is actually an old vintage men's general work shirt that was upcycled into a new design. Looks a lot like this safari style top at Zara and would transfer well into a fall wardrobe. Dress: Once Upon a Time, S, $14 / Hat: Lids, $8 / Silver Cuff Bracelet: $8.

I love the light flowy feel of this top and the textured vintage skirt is pretty amazing as well. Top: Soprano, M, $10 / Skirt: Vintage, XS/S, $17.99 / Purse: Vintage, $8.

Here's another upcycled dress, this time from Urban Outfitters. Definitely looks like an 80's pattern. A great light option for the summer. To add another level of comfort, pair it with a cute cardigan like this one from Splendid. Dress: Urban Renewal, S, $16.50 / Cardigan: Splendid, S, $16.50.

Shirt: GAP, XS, $12 / Leather Skirt: Express, S, $13 / Sunglasses: $5 / Vintage Pearl Necklace: $8.

Jacket: American Eagle, S/M, $14 / Dress: Xhilaration, L, $13 / Vintage Cameo Necklace: $16

Shirt: American Eagle, XS, $12 / Skirt: S/M, $12 / Vintage Macrame Purse: $10.

Blackbird Attic Styled Outfits

Sheree of It's Not That Deep, stopped by last week to style some outfits using Blackbird Attic stock. As is the business of consignment, many of these pieces already sold! But I hope to keep up with this feature.. so here goes:

Floral is a huge trend for spring and summer. All types of florals from big prints to floral denim. This cotton dress from the 80's is casual enough to wear to the park, but would also be great for a bridal/baby shower or brunch. It has sold, but we have many items in the shop with a floral print.

Here is another look that sold, but take this styling tip and only half tuck in half your top. As for the skirt, from nautical to sporty, stripes are in!

When you think of a warm weather afternoon a picnic is usually involved and with that comes gingham.. always a warm weather trend and staple. This top is actually a tunic/dress, but could be worn in a few different ways as seen here.

Here's another simple style tip. Wear colored denim to make your outfit more interesting.

Lace is all over the runways. Here is a dressy lace top, dressed down with a basic tank and vintage shorts.

Another stripe look in a totally different style. This outfit went to one lucky lady from NYC. Our merchandise is always moving, so stop in whenever you can to check and see what's new before it's gone!

Lastly, here's an interesting look, this skirt has an extra panel of fabric with a hidden pocket. The top and bag are also available for sale.

That's it for now, hope you enjoyed this new feature, there will be more to come!

What Lauren Wore: 11.7.11

030

Today I'm wearing a vintage shirt I picked up at a thrift store called Savers in Massachusetts. I paired it with heather grey leggings from Forever 21, my White Mountain boots from DSW, and a faux leather jacket that I picked up from Marshalls for $3. The scarf was a present from my mom when she went to Italy.

Outfit: What Lauren Wore

Skirt - H&M
Lace vest - Charlotte Russe
Shoes - MIA via Macys
Earrings - Vintage
Rings - Forever 21 and Tiffanys
Bracelet - Vintage
Necklace - Vintage

I love wearing this vest/skirt combo. The tiers on the vest play off of those on the skirt, without being too cohesive. (Although it does always get mistaken for a dress) I stuck with silver, white, and black accessories to balance the grey. I wanted to make the blue skirt the focal point which is why it is the only color.

Military Style Cardigan- Forever 21
Tank Top Dress- Joyce Leslie via Blackbird Attic
Floral Tights- Wet Seal
Silver Cuff- Forever 21
Necklace- Vintage
Etc Jewelry- Forever 21, Vintage, Pac Sun

I wanted the leggings of my outfit to be the Focal Point. Therefore I paired them with solid colored items. The yelow tank pulls out some of the cream colors in the flowers, making them a little brighter and pop a little more.
