Halloween at Blackbird Attic
We spooked it up a bit here at Blackbird. It didn't take too much effort, just a bunch of black spiderwebs and some crafts I found at Michaels! Halloween is here now and I really should have a new window planned already...ahhh...
Anyway, my Halloween festivities this year have been comprised of a bunch of scary movie nights, but I haven't really dressed up. I attempted to be beetle juice last night and it just did not work very well, haha. That's what I get for waiting till the last minute. Tonight I will be handing out candy to cute kids and indulging myself with some "special" cider. What are you all doing?

Fall Picks Video
So this just so happens to be my 100th post on the blog! I am always trying to come up with new content to keep the blog fresh. An idea I recently had was to film some items in the store to give a sort of rundown of what's in the shop. Ive done this with pictures on the facebook page, but the editing takes a lot longer than a quick video. It would be a really long video if I went through all the racks, so I decided to just pick out some items to showcase. So here it is, first video of picks.. ! I know this one is quiet and we didn't zoom in on any details, so I think we'll improve on that next time around. I want to try to do this weekly, so check back. What do you think?

Trendwatch: Tuxedo
The idea of stealing from your boyfriend's closet has always been around. First it was his flannels, then it was his jeans. This fall it's the tuxedo look, featuring the pleated shirts, the jackets, and even the cummerbunds, this trend is being seen in every style and color.
Once again, I've searched through our racks to find the perfect selections for you to rock this trend.
First, we'll start with this vintage black pleated shirt by Chaus Petites. It features mini pleats all along the front, with a wider pleat down the center front to give the illusion of there being a button-less placket. The bottom of the shirt has a band of fabric, that is accented on the left side by golden buttons. Each sleeve has these buttons as well. Pair this shirt with slimmer satin dress pants; untucked, to show off the buttons of course. If you would like to be daring make those pants some color other than grey, white, or black. (Chaus Petites;10;$14)
The next shirt I have is a vintage Country Suburbans button down that boasts a rich champagne color. The pleats extend from the shoulders down to the hem on only a section of the front. It has buttons on the front, and on the bottom of the sleeve. This shirt also features a peter pan collar that has also popped up in fashion lately. Since this is a rich color, pair it with another rich color such as navy. Then add gold accents to keep your color palette warm. (Country Suburbans;12;Sale $7)
Moving onto jackets I came across this beautiful one by Giorgio Armani. I picked this one to put my own twist onto the tuxedo jacket. The main thing that separates a tux from a suit is the satin accents. I played off of this by the shine in the entire jacket. I also liked the asymmetrical invisible front that looks great opened or closed. Wear this jacket over a metallic shirt to really pull out the shine. (Giorgio Armani;46;$40)
The next jacket is by Regina Porter. It features ruffle detailing on the front, and is therefore a less structured jacket from the tuxedo trend. The drape to this jacket helps it move with you. Wear this on a casual girls night out when you want to dress up a little. Dark skinny jeans with a white shirt paired with the perfect black heel. (Regina Porter;8;$16)
Last but not least is a vintage navy skirt. It is a high-waisted knee length skirt that also conveniently has front pockets. I always consider that to be a plus on skirts. The thing that brings this into the tuxedo trend is the waistband. It is a satin pleated band that pulls off the cummerbund concept. Wear this to work with a tucked in white shirt, some heels, and statement jewelry. (Vintage Skirt;X-Small;$14)
If you're interested in purchasing any of these items, e-mail Blackbird Attic. That's all for this week. Check back next week for a new trend idea to try!

Outfit: What Lauren Wore
Skirt - H&M
Lace vest - Charlotte Russe
Shoes - MIA via Macys
Earrings - Vintage
Rings - Forever 21 and Tiffanys
Bracelet - Vintage
Necklace - Vintage
I love wearing this vest/skirt combo. The tiers on the vest play off of those on the skirt, without being too cohesive. (Although it does always get mistaken for a dress) I stuck with silver, white, and black accessories to balance the grey. I wanted to make the blue skirt the focal point which is why it is the only color.

Day Trip: Lawrence Farms
My boyfriend and I started going to Lawrence Farms in Newburgh, NY before we even officially moved to the area. It's become somewhat of a tradition now, and how can it not be something we do every year with that kind of view! The weather was great, really sunny with a cool breeze, a perfect outdoors day and I will not complain of the added perks of apple cider and fresh sugar donuts. We picked apples, pumpkins, and pet some goats! Definitely want to try and get another orchard day in before it gets too cold.

TRENDWATCH: Teal
By Intern Lauren
Teal seems to be a huge player in this Fall’s color palette. We see it popping up in both women’s wear and men’s wear; clothing and accessories. Deep teal is the shade we’re looking at, although lighter shades have been seen as a twist. It’s also been incorporated into prints and furs, as seen in Prada, Fendi, and Louis Vuitton runway shows.
To match this trend, we have handpicked some of our items to help you rock your own runway style.
First off, we have a nice little sweater by Petite Sophisticate. We picked this item because not only does it fall into our BB Trendwatch sights, but because it is practical for the upcoming fall weather. The lower neckline and the accented detailing on the front flatters all chest types. Style Tip: pair with jeans and a light grey blazer for a layered fall look. (Petite Sophisticate; $12)
Next up we have a vintage collared shirt by Josephine. This shirt features some gold zipper detailing around the neck and a covered placket with snaps on the underside. Style Tip: Wear this shirt tucked in with a leather skirt to pull in the leather trend as well. (Josephine; $13.50)
This ruffle Joie shirt features shirring around the waist and button detailing on the front. It has a cute flirty appeal that works in all types of environment. Style Tip: Pair with a pair of skinny jeans for a casual look. For a night out you can wear it with a short black skirt and some shiny heels. To wear for a job interview pair with a black blazer with ruffle accents and black skinny pants. (Joie; Small; $23)
Lastly we’re featuring a BCBG Maxaria dress. The angles on this diamond print are very flattering to the body, as it brings the eye inward. The neckline is slimming to broader shoulders. Lastly, we will feature a handkerchief hem to add some dimension. Style Tip: For a night out, pair with coral heels and a silver clutch. (BCBG Maxaria; 4; $22)
OUTFIT: What Lauren Wore
Military Style Cardigan- Forever 21
Tank Top Dress- Joyce Leslie via Blackbird Attic
Floral Tights- Wet Seal
Silver Cuff- Forever 21
Necklace- Vintage
Etc Jewelry- Forever 21, Vintage, Pac Sun
Boots- White Mountain via DSW
I wanted the leggings of my outfit to be the Focal Point. Therefore I paired them with solid colored items. The yelow tank pulls out some of the cream colors in the flowers, making them a little brighter and pop a little more.

What I Wore Today: 10/3/2011
I've been wearing a lot of H&M and own a lot of H&M... so you'll be seeing H&M quite often in that little list below! Working there was actually one of my first jobs and it got me really interested in working in the fashion industry. It introduced me to styling and target marketing. H&M has visual merchandisers for each store, but they would let me dress a mannequin here and there and it was my favorite thing about working there. It's not always the most obvious thing (well it wasn't to me before I knew!) but they have different sections in the store geared to the different ages and styles of their customers. One section is more for teens, while the other is geared more towards adults, but I always find things in every section that I love.
Top- H&M
Skirt- American Apparel
Tights- H&M
Shoes- Crown Vintage (from DSW)
