Cute Summer Outfit Idea

I always love looking to fashion blogs, Pinterest and the streets of New York for my outfit inspiration. Yesterday, as I was walking to lunch I saw these two 20-something girls walking through Times Square each wearing a neutral top, a floral bottom and a pop of color with their accessories. I thought to myself, now that's a great outfit! Believe me when I tell you, great outfits are hard to come by with all of the tourists in the area but you'd be surprised how many socks with sandals and jorts occur (and not ironically).

The outfits got my juices flowing and I wanted to pick some items that we have in stock at Blackbird Attic to show you how easy it is (and inexpensive) to put a cute summer outfit together. Behold...the findings:

JCrew Magenta Pink Crossbody Purse, $39.99

Keds Rally Glitter Toe Black Sneakers, Size 8.5, 29.99

Urban Outfitters Kimici Blue Tiered Corseted Strapless Dress, Size 6, $17.50, Retail $69

What do you guys think? Would you wear something like this?

Burning Red

There's just something about the color Red. It's classic, for sure. When I think of Red, I think of the 1940's-bright red lipstick, bright red nails and how they both drove the men wild.

The color red signifies passion-a hate, a love, a lust...you can see red just about anytime anywhere. It's such a powerful color that Taylor Swift dedicated a whole album to it.

Anyhow, just in case you also like to see Red, Blackbird Attic has plenty of Red items or Red inspired items. See for yourself below:

Denim Days

The same way nothing comes between Brooke Shields and her Calvin's, nothing comes between me and an amazing pair of jeans. My closet is stacked with jeans of many colors and designers from high end to low end. It may be my favorite piece of clothing to collect (shhhh! Don't tell my shoes!).

Many ladies can agree that once you find a brand that works with your body type it's like the skies open and the heavens start to sing. Regardless of the denim brand of your choice, it's also no secret that designer jeans just feel better on your legs than non-designer. However, designer jeans usually come at a hefty price tag. Luckily, you have Blackbird Attic on your side *wink*. Take a look at what we have in store below:

Joes "The Skinny" Jean I 28" Waist I $27.50 I Retails $169

Awhile ago, we posted about the new Pantone color of the year being Radiant Orchid. With this sudden onslaught of gorgeous weather in New York its got us thinking of Summer's hot, go-to colors.

Inspired by this photo from Alicia King Photography featuring this Ella Moss dress, available at Blackbird Attic, we just HAD to post about it again! And could you just die for that flower crown?

Bright Ideas

One of the ways many people show their appreciation for art and color is wearing it. We're not talking about wearing sandwich board paintings on a street corner, we're talking about fashion.

When I was 18, I got my first credit card. I maxed it out within a week. Did I think I was some straight up baller like P.Diddy with a black card? Yup. My nasty little shopping habit wasn't such a bright idea for a college girl on a ramen and Diet Coke meal plan. But I did know one thing, I loved expressing myself through my clothes. Three part time jobs, a new credit card limit and some sweet Holiday sales later I was back on track. Luckily, our bright ideas at Blackbird Attic will only help your closet become more colorful at a fraction of the cost *wink*.

Finishing Touches

The icing on the cake.

The cherry on top.

Tying it up in a bow.

There are a few sayings and doings that are synonimous with the final touch. When it comes to putting together an outfit, the accessories are always a fun finishing touch. Depending on the season, your climate and your style, accessories can come in all shapes and sizes. Many women I know love to finish their outfits with an infinity scarf and some cute stud earrings. Others prefer a statement necklace and some glitzy shoes. Whatever your finishing fancy is, Blackbird Attic has plenty for everyone in store:

A few years ago, the REALLY REALLY big sunglasses were in style. Now, thankfully, a more modern sunnie is what's all the rage.

Cole Haan 6090 Sunglasses I $18

This flat espadrille trend is legit my new obsession.  Wear these with a sporty sundress, with ankle pants and a button down or to the beach. The possibilities are literally endless.

*New* JJill Espadrilles I size 7 I $15.50

Remember when your Mom used to buy you Keds to wear when you were a kid? Well, now they're totally cool to wear as an adult. Comfy and chic? Sold!

Keds Rally Glitter Toe Black Sneakers I Size 8.5 I $29.99

A statement purse is a definite must-have in your repertoire of fashion accessories.

Michael Kors Brown Giraffe Canvas Leather Slouch Hobo Bag I $55

It's the final countdown to a more fashionable, accessorized you!

Not Everything Is Black & White

There was a time in the world when black and white weren't considered colors and even some die hard scientist geeks also still believe that it's a debatable issue (read up on it, here). Regardless, black is one of the most popular shades in closets--it goes with mostly everything, it's supposed to make you look thinner and you will always look chic no matter the ocassion.

Despite many designers (and Netflix TV shows) sprouting the idea that XX color is the new black, it just never quite gets dethroned. We're loving the black (and some white and gray) selections from our boutique below:

Free People Bustier Dress I Size Small I $24.99

Madewell Broadway Broome Black Lace Top I Size Medium I $18.50

Anthropologie Coquille Shorts I Size Small I $16.50

Tory Burch Reva Black Suede Flats I Size 8.5 I $55 I Retail $235

Our contest is still going on! Don't forget to Tweet, Facebook, Insta whatever your social media poison is, use the hashtag: #BlackbirdAttic30 for a $30 gift card.

Progressional Patterns

I've never been a huge "prints" person. My preference is to take a solid, bold color and accessorize the crap out of it. However, there are a few patterns that can make their way into my closet--anything leopard, maybe a cool chevron and perhaps a paisley. In an effort to move out of my comfort zone, I've been trying to incorporate more patterns into this Spring's haul. The pattern selection at Blackbird Attic is on point. Check out some of my favorites below:

Can you tell we're a little obsessed with Anthropologie? Can you blame us? The tank of the left is extremely versatile as you can wear it with slacks for work, a jean skirt for a casual weekend or skinny jeans and heels for a night out. The tunic on the right is perfect for a backyard BBQ or strolling for antiques.

Right: Anthropologie Fei Plaid Tunic I Size 6 I $18
Left: Anthropologie Floral Tank I Small I $14.99

One thing is for sure, you don't have to be a member of a fancy boat club to rock this sailboat printed skirt. Wear with a crisp white button down for a casual business meeting or pair with a slouchy white T for an afternoon at the flea market.
Talbots Sailboat Skirt I Size 8P I $17.50

When I look at this Kate Moss dress, I want to be frolicking through Coachella or Bonnaroo barefoot wearing a flower crown.
Kate Moss Top Shop Dess I Size 6 I $18
Despite it's bright colors and pattern, this tank can be work many ways. Try pairing it with jeans, skinny or flare, tucked in (mullet-style) with a black skirt and heels and also with a white flowy maxi for a nice contrast.
Zac Posen for Target I Medium I $9.50

Don't forget we have a contest going on! When you share this post, and why wouldn't you, use the hashtag #BlackbirdAttic30 to win a $30 gift card to the store!
