Warm Cozy Knits

This time of year, especially in the Northeast, it's nice to curl up in front of the fire place, sipping on hot cocoa (five marshmallows minimum) in a warm, comfy, cozy sweater. Men and women alike have many styles to choose from slouchy and vintage to fitted and modern. One thing is for sure is that patterns and stripes are a must.

Hi, my name is...

Hi everyone! I'm Allie. I am the new contributor to the Blackbird Attic Boutique blog. Before I become your eyes into all that is trending in the fashion world, I think I should tell you a little about myself first:

I like to describe myself as a 20-something shopaholic, skin nerd and advice giver just trying to find a place in the blogoshpere. I love everything about social media. I’m a sucker for a good sale and my credit card limit has seen better days.  I love styling and putting outfits together and I’m a firm believer in that you don’t have to spend a million to look like a million. And although most fashionista’s will tell you “fashion over function” I’d choose a warm, cozy knit over a pair of stilettos any day.

I grew up in the Hudson Valley, graduated SUNY New Paltz with a Journalism degree and currently work on the digital publishing side for a major women's lifestyle magazine in NYC.

What can you expect from this blog? The perfect fashion cocktail: current trends, fashion news, outfit inspiration and everything that's going on at Blackbird Attic.

Stay tuned for Holiday Party trends as well as what's hot this winter!

The Field House

I came across this Seattle store name and description in Lucky magazine and I knew I had to check it out. They are a twist on an old timey general store with a nod towards simpler times,

"The Field House is reminiscent of general stores that were once at the heart of rural towns across America. Its shelves are stocked with a wide variety of merchandise, including classic work wear, vintage goods, basic groceries and candies, flowers, and perfumes and candles. It captures the history, geography, and folklore of times past, when goods were less disposable and had more meaning, a time when people canned their own food and took a moment to converse with strangers."

Yeah you probably see it too, the inside photos definitely look a bit Urban Outfitters-esque, but I can see how they differentiate themselves and it really makes me want to open a similar concept store one day! Love it.

Winter Inspiration

Definitely finding inspiration in these ladies. I think skirts and dresses are totally okay in the winter, just wear some thick leggings! All these tops would work with jeans as well. I love interesting patterns on sweaters and peter pan collars of course! But my favorite look here is actually the last, because I am a huge fan of the juxtaposition of different styles, and I love the winter, military vibe paired with the lace top and high waisted skirt.
